The altarpiece, also from the workshop of Mattia Preti depicts St Luke sitting on a stool depicting an image of the Blessed Virgin. St Luke was a companion of St Paul during his three month stay after being shipwrecked on Malta. An old tradition says he left in Malta an image of the Madonna. He is accompanied by two fellow visitors, St Trophimus and St Aristarchus.

The sacristy door has survived the earthquake of 1693 and was one of the doors of the medieval Cathedral. It was made by Cola Curmi in 1520, as recorded in the door’s inscription . It was then adapted as the sacristy door of the new baroque Cathedral. Click here for more info
