After Dürer
October 11 @ 01:00
The Mdina Cathedral Museum conserves within its walls a vast collection of prints and drawings. The most notable print collection is that of Albrecht Dürer. This year the Museum will be celebrating the 550th anniversary of the birth of the most pivotal Northern Renaissance artist.
After Dürer is an exhibition reflecting on the artist’s manipulation of the then-new invention, the printing press. Through ten prints produced by his followers and copyists, the exhibition explores the development of mass communication brought about by the press and the adaptation of goldsmith practices applied to printmaking.
In conjunction with this, the Malta School of Art will be presenting a selection of prints by their students. These works were inspired by the prints collection housed at the Mdina Cathedral Museum.
This project has been sponsored by the German Embassy, which had sponsored parts of the refurbishment of Dürer’s Hall in 2018.
